"ALBIZIA" TREES IN MĀNOA

Picture
Above. 2979 Koali Road, Honolulu, HI, USA, is the address to arrive to the intersection of Palolo Stream and Mānoa Stream, to see the difference between the two streams: Mānoa stream has much more sedimentation than Palolo.

Below. Videos of Albizia trees in Mānoa. Below each is a Google Map, which locates where each video was shot. For the cleanup to happen downstream in the Ala Wai Canal, these Albizia trees, located upstream, in Mānoa, must be removed. See accompanying report, blogs, and videos.

WHO WE ARE

"Friends of Waikīkī National Recreation Area" is an organization to lobby at the U.S. Congressional level for areas of Waikīkī, Mānoa, and surrounding areas on the island of O’ahu, Hawaii, to be under the management of the U.S. National Park Service.

While engaging stakeholders, and reaching out to the community, the "Friends of Waikīkī National Recreation Area" advocates for the beautification of the Ala Wai Canal and Waikiki with a “River Walk” which includes the planting of wetland taro and the incorporation of cultural and religious facilities.

Volunteer Corner

Soon Accepting Volunteers!!!
The "Friends of Waikīkī National Recreation Area" (WANRA) soon needs volunteers for the following positions:

--Coordinator of Volunteer Resources
--Community Resource Manager
--Community Engagement Specialist

Positions include fundraising, administration and research, all of which raise the awareness level of issues mentioned in WANRA's publications.

Volunteers must have a minimum of a high school diploma.

The number of volunteer hours needed varies as long as the volunteer communicates how many hours he or she can dedicate every week. Also, if needed or required, the volunteer communicates at what times he or she is available to volunteer.

In-house and informal, the volunteer orientation and training provide an overview of its structure, management and the channels of communication with other related organizations.

WHY PROPOSE A NEW FACILITY and grounds TO BE
UNDER THE U.S. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE?

There is a long answer, which is explained in the Ala Wai Watershed Special Resource Study Report. (Click on the button below to access the full report.) Then there is the concise answer, which is this:
The U.S. National Park Service (US NPS) will give the proposed park the best "interpretation" it needs in order for the park to be successful.

Right. Lower left of the image is the Mānoa Palolo Drainage Canal. In the center is the body of water called the Ala Wai Canal. In the backdrop lies Diamond Head—the crater of a dormant volcano. To the right is Waikiki--home to most of the hotels and resorts on the island of Oahu and State of Hawaii.
